Duplicate prevention------->IMPOSSIBLE?????

We run the last version of ACT! 2008. I thought I had the duplicate screen set but obviously I don't. Over the last few weeks we've had several cases of duplicate contacts. Many of them were occurring because, we thought, that the two salesmen who spoke with the customer put the mobile and land line numbers in different fields. But today I got one that was identical in every way.  I have it set to screen first for contact name, then for telephone, then for e-mail address. Why is it not working? Also, is there a way to track duplicates where the contacts are the same except that the mobile and land line numbers are swapped? Please Help -- this problem is causing unnecessary headache and confusion for this sales manager.

What fields do you have set in the dupe checking dialog? Tools | Preferences | Duplicate Checking (check all machines)

Are the user on a LAN or do any of them sync to a remote database or PDA?

If you manually try and enter a contact with the same data, do you get a message about it being a duplicate?

Do you see the dupes with Tools | Scan for Duplicates?

  • "What fields do you have set in the dupe checking dialog"

    Here's my first problem--I had it set on just my machine as first by contact, then by e-mail, then by phone. When I tried to go to each work station and set it up the same way, one of them had all duplicate management functions grayed out. The other work station temporarily gave me this error before finally letting me change the settings:

         "Violation of unique key constraint 'TBL_SYSTABLEKEY_AK2.' Cannot insert Duplicate key in object 'dbo.TBL_SYSTABLEKEY.'     The statement has been terminated."

  • Are the user on a LAN or do any of them sync to a remote database or PDA?
    We're on a local area network
  • If you manually try and enter a contact with the same data, do you get a message about it being a duplicate?
    We used to get the message but it hasn't popped up for months
  • Do you see the dupes with Tools | Scan for Duplicates?
    Yes

Can you try it in the demo database to see if it's database related?

What version of ACT! (the full build from Help | About)?

The Demo Database acts the same way. The version we're running is 10.0.1.199

Does it happen on any machine?

Are you running 10.0.3 Hotfix 1? Check in Help | About

I'm running plain ol' version 10.0.1.199. All the computers act the same

Re: Duplicate prevention------->IMPOSSIBLE?????

I'd update to 10.02 or 10.03... I don't know if it will fix it, but 10.02 had a lot of improvements.

You do need to do the update on ALL systems sharing the database
