Dialer With Windows 8.1 - Can Not Hang Up The Line

Is anyone using the dialer with Windows 8.1 and Ver 16?

 

My system will dial the number just fine, but I have to close the dialer box by using the Task Manager. 

 

I've searched on the WEB for any information regarding Windows 8.1 and I've replaced the external USB modem.

I have no access to the "Hang Up" button.  The cursor turns into a circle and just stays there.  That's why I have to use Task Manager.

Problem was resolved for about an hour and returned.

 

I was having a problem keeing an add-in connected in Outlook, with what was thought to be unrelated.  My TS logged in to my system and resolved the problem by cleaning out the registry for the related problem. 

 

After he did that, there was no more dialer problem.  So, I'm now thinking it was something in the registry.

 

The add-in that wasn't staying connected when Outlook 2013 restarted was Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

What happens when you use the Windows dialer outside of Act!? Does it let you hang up there? Does this happen after the person you are talking to hangs up, or Are you able to hang up before the person you are talking to hangs up?

Elise, thanks for jumping in.

 

If I use the Windows dialer, it dials and hangs up just fine.

 

Interesting, when I brought up the dialer while ACT was active, the Act call status button also popped up.  I could hang up on the Windows dialer but not on the Act status. 

 

The configuration is ...

    Phone line from computer to USB Modem

    USB Modem to 3-Way splitter  

    3-Way Splitter - 2 remaining openings:

        To speaker phone

         To 2nd phone

 

I have been using this configuration for over 8 years. 

 

I tried using the ACT2014 demo and the same issue remains. 

 

Something in the background is causing the Call Status window to become inactive or hang.

 

So I closed ACT and ran the Windows Dialer and the Act Call status still popped up. 

 

I rebooted the computer and did not open any program, other than what runs in the Start Menu.  I brought up Windows Dialer and again the Act Call Status window also popped up.  I could not close the Act window but I could close the Windows dialer.

 

Hope that paints a better picture.

I don't think that the mode in which your hardware is connected is affecting this either. At the point at which the dialer will not let you hang up, is the history window open? If it is, try to close the history window and then hang up the call. If this is the case, this is a known issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't affect the results - still could not hang up the line.

 

I ran another test.

 

Using my field system that synchronizes back to the host system, I set it up to dial, and I was expecting it to work.  However, I received the same results. 

 

At this point it is all pointing to an ACT error of sime kind.

 

Any ideas?

I think I had the same problem. 

 

The solution I found was to go into Tools/Preferences/Communication/Dialler Preferences

 

I found that when the Dialler was set to hide the Dialler after dialling, meaning that there was no way to hang up the dialler. After unchecking that option I have been able to dial out and then hang up the call.

 

Not sure if my problem was the same as the one you are describing. Could be worth checking this out

Really good suggestion, unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem.

Try to uninstall and reinstall and see if that makes a difference.
