Dialer Icon MIssing

The dialer icon is missing from the menu bar. I have the dialer box checked in the preferences. I am using Sage ACT! Pro 2012 Version 14.1.108.0, Hot Fix 7

Is the icon missing, or is it grayed out? In your experience, was it ever there on this machine?

 

What version of Windows are you running?

 

Additionally, if you take Act! out of the equation for a moment and attempt to make a call using the Windows Dialer, does that function properly?

I'm using Windows 7 Pro  64 bit

The dialer was never in the menu so I don't even have one that's greyed out. I have not tried to use the windows dialer but i have been able to use my fax software so I know that the modem in my computer is operational and I can indeed get a dial tone.

 

Please let me know how I can get the dialer to appear in the menu.

The reason that I asked about the Windows Dialer is because the functionality of the Act! Dialer relies upon the Windows Dialer functioning. The icon should be there by default, however if some customization to the toolbar has occurred, it's possible that it could have been accidentally removed. 

 

If the dialer icon is not there when you're looking at a contact's record, you should be able to add it back to the toolbar by using the steps in the following knowledgebase aritcle:

If it still doesn't appear after that, I would double-check the Windows Dialer to make sure that it is functional, since the Act! Dialer works based off of that.

 

If the Windows Dialer is functional, you might want to try to reset your toolbars back to default. You can do this by clicking Tools > Customize > Reset Menus and Toolbars. Note, though,  that this will undo any customization of your toolbars, requiring you to reconfigure them.

Elise: Thanks so much for that. I did get the dialer into the menu. I clicked on it to make a call and a box showed up saying "The call cannot be made." If this has to do with the windows dialer then I need to find out how to set that up.

 

I tried to google how set up the windows dialer but couldn't find any info on it. If you think this is the issue then please let me know where I might find out how to set up the windows dialer.

For that particular error, it could be caused by either the Windows Dialer not being set up properly, or at all, or it can be caused by something called User Account Controls.

 

For setting up the Windows Dialer, you might be able to use the following Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/phone-and-modem-options-setting-up-dialing-location...

 

After doing so, try to make a call using only the Windows Dialer. If it doesn't work, I'd recommend contacting an IT Professional or Microsoft for assistance in making sure that it's set up properly.

 

If the Windows Dialer is configured properly, and you're still receiving the error, I would recommend the following knowledegebase article:

If that doesn't work, an easy thing that you can try would be to Go into the preferences, disable the Act! Dialer, restart Act!, then reenable the dialer.
