Detach Database SQL

Hi,

I'm using Dropbox (www.dropbox.com) to auto backup My Documents.  The ACT database is in this folder.  It seems the database won't auto backup.  Perhaps because I need to detach the database?  See:

SQL maintains a lock on the database from when the system boots.

You can detach it with ACTDIAG as per this ACT! Knowledge Base article -

Anybody have any idea how the auto backup can work without having to detach the database every time?

Thxs.

Re: Detach Database SQL

Greetings,

Have you tried running the backup after stopping the instance of SQL?

Re: Detach Database SQL

Hi - I have tried this but it doesn't work. Dropbox is saying access to my ALF file was denied.

Any thoughts?

Re: Detach Database SQL

Greetings,

Do you/drop box have the proper permissions to access the ADF ALF and database files?

Essentially, if you stop the SQL instance, you should be able to move/copy the files if you have the proper permissions.

on a personal note, where in Canada are you from?

Re: Detach Database SQL

The recommended process for backing up your database with the 'outside' application is to set up a scheduled backup using the Act! Scheduler program, which will create a *.zip file which can then be copied/moved by the backup software.  The Act! Scheduler can be found in the Tools menu within the Act! program.

Hi - I do have the permissions. I will try to Scheduler to see if that helps.
