Databases have vanished from Act!

Hi,

 

I have been successfully using Act! on my laptop for a couple of months.

 

Act - Pro 2012 vers 14.0

 

MS Office 2016

 

Private db

 

OS - Windows 10.

 

This morning, my databases have vanished from Act!  I have clicked the hyperlink "The database I want is not listed" which takes me to the  PAD & DB files of the missing databases.

 

I also get an error message "The SQL database service is not started."

 

I have used different versions of Act! for many years, but am not very IT literate.

 

Hope someone can help.

And now 5 hours later without doing anything other than rebooting the pc several times,  the dbs are back!

 

What happened there, then?

Then try to open the database again

The problem you experienced was a case of the ACT! instance of the SQL server not starting at boot time. In your case it did start properly on the reboot. It appears to be a timing issue that happens occasionally during the boot sequence. In your post I noted that you are running ACT! 2012 on Windows 10. You should consider upgrading your ACT! version because the version of the Microsoft SQL server used with that version of ACT! is no longer supported by Microsoft.
