Database has been locked by Adminsstator

I am using version 10.0.3.182, Hotfix 1.  I use ACT on my own computer at home.

I receive this message when I am logging on to my database.  "The database you are trying to access has been locked by an administrator.  Please try later."

1. I should not get this message at all

2.  How do I go about any fixes?

Thank you in advance.

rich97213,

Start the program Actdiag and in there you should be able to "unlock" the database.  This link may be helpful: Answer ID 14349.

Re: Database has been locked by Adminsstator

Hello Ellie,

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

Can you provide some additional details to your issue?

- What version of ACT! are you running?

- Is this a shared database?

If shared, are you an administrator of the database?

- Was the database in the Actdiag list or not?

If not, the database is most likely on a server/host machine; you will need to perform the steps on that host machine.

- If it was in the list, was 'Unlock database' grayed out?

- Did you get any messages when attempting the unlock command?

Re: Database has been locked by Adminsstator

Hi

We have just upgradedto Sage Act pro 2012 (and I may add all i've had since then are problems!)

The database is shared  and I have tried these steps on both the local and server PCs - I am the administrator

The database did appear in the ACTdiag box on the server computer but not on the local computer

Unlock database was not greyed out, no message came up when I tried to unlock!

Thanks

Ellie

Re: Database has been locked by Adminsstator

That is correct, the database will not show up on workstations; only on the machine on which it physically resides.

In Actdiag, try the Unlock option again > then click the Refresh button.  Does the status for the Locked column change?  Are there other databases listed as Locked?  If yes, unlock them also.  Then attempt to open the database.

Hi,

I'm afraid I was wrong, the database is listed as unlocked but when I click on that field it is greyed over sorry!

Re: Database has been locked by Adminsstator

With it showing 'unlocked' in Actdiag, try opening the database by:

- on server

- close ACT!

- browse to location of database, as shown in ActDiag

- double click on the PAD file for the database

Ok i've managed to open the locked database but only by doing it your way if I try and open as usual I still get the same message but its better than not getting into it at all so thank you very much!

[ Edited ]

I have same problem at client of mine.

Running ACT Pro 2011

On PC hosting database, ACTDiag says db is unlocked.

Last time this happened ACT support helped out and we turned off Windows Firewall and it worked.

Windows firewall is off but still remote PCs receive the Locked by Administrator error??

What else could it be??
