Re: Database detach

When a database is detached, it is no-longer connected to the SQL engine.

Why do you ask?

Re: Database detach

As you may see from my other posts, each time I close Act2012 I lose pad file; then try to open with adf file as administrator and get message that file is open when it  is  not. I discovered that I can detach and then open with adf file. Pad file is created, but disappears when close ACT. Nothing seems to change in database; can I leave it detached, or does it reattach when I open with adf file? If so, I'll be right back where I began. I can't afford to lose the information I've entered today and I can only backup while db is detached. Something very funny is going on here.

Re: Database detach

Try copying the PAD to somewhere else (like the desktop) after you create it... it's only a pointer and doesn't need to be in the same location

Does that work?

No, it wipes it out no matter where I move it.

My backups are wiped out each time as well.

Re: Database detach

I have never heard of ACT! doing that ... possible virus?
If you have tech skills, you might look for something in the Event Viewer ... if not, I'd get someone to look at the system

Re: Database detach

Event viewer report--

Performance counter shared memory setup failed with error -1. Reinstall sqlctr.ini for this instance, and ensure that the instance login account has correct registry permissions.

Re: Database detach

I wonder if deleting and reinstalling SQL would solve??
