It's possible that the SQL server didn't start, that would be the typical error message. However, ACT! 11 isn't compatible with Windows 10 if that's the operating system on the new computer.

So you have installed ACT on a new computer and unable to open an existing database.
Where is the database - Local on your machine or on a server?
If the database is on your machine where did it come from? If copied from another machine change the .pad file to .tmp file and try opening via the .adf file.

Hi thanks for your answer,
To be honest I am not sure if it is in a server or in the machine but I did copy the files from the old computer. I tried by changing the extension from .pad to .tmp but I wasn't able to open the database.

Could be a bad PAD file. Try opening the database with the ADF file which will write a new PAD file.

open once you have changed the .pad to .tmp In ACT select File, Open Share Database, Browse for Database (Or the database is not listed even if it is.)
Now when browsing Change the selection from PAD file to ADF file. Now select the database and open. This will create a new pad file with the correct information.
