I am a new user to act!. I have an excel database that i would like to import to act. So I follow the instructions to save the data to comma delimited and import, The mapping fields are correct and matching each other. The comma delimited file has 860 contacts plus phone, fax, email etc. Now, after the importing is done and i am able to see the contacts there are only 116 contacts, in some cases the contact is missing the first letter of the company name and in some cases the name is correct. The phone and fax number are not importing either.
WHAT AM I DOING SOOOO WRONG? Please help me in any way i have wasted 3 day trying unsuccessfully but i am not familiar with act. I might be overlooking at a simple step.

Firstly make sure you haven't got any completely blank rows (which could be hidden) in your spreadsheet or the import will stop at that point.
Next you could try saving the Excel file as a Tab delimited text file and try importing that into ACT.
It could also be that you have invisible "bad" characters in your Excel data. I know this is hard to believe but it is really, really common, and ACT! is extremely picky about the data it imports.

The article is actually about something different, but if you scroll down to the Removing Unnecessary Characters: section it shows you how to set up a macro in Excel that will clean-up the spreadsheet before you do an import.
Remember: ALWAYS do a backup in ACT! before attempting to import data into ACT!

I followed your steps to import the data from excel to cvs. but i am still getting no phone numbers, no fax numbers, the company name is still missing the first letter and not all the data was imported. However, the contact names, address, sity, state, zip, and emails transfer correctly.
Any suggestions. I have faith and believe in Act! but i can seem to make it work for me. I know it is a very successful program and i am eagered to work with it if i get it to work.
(I have a program where you can control my computer remotely and i can see what you are doing if this helps going back and forth.)
Dont give up on me, please help me solve this!

So, just to clarify, you set the Excel macro and ran it, yes?
Do all of your Excel columns have headers i.e. a colum title like City, Phone, E-mail etc with no blanks?
Make sure there are no blank columns of any kind within the data.
If this is a new database with few or no contacts in it, I would restore a backup to get back to a clean, empty database then turn off Duplicate checking (Tools > Preferences> Duplicate Checking).
When you start the Import Wizard and you reach the Mapping page, can you see your phone field on the left?

i am not a compute gal, but i try my best,
1.- I think i ran macro, i followed the instructions but honestly i dont know what to expect after it runs.
2.- the headers have all titles, company name, first name, phone, fax, etc. ( some of the contacts do not have the complete info as far as their number or fax, there are in the rows
3.- i am using a new computer, new everything this is the first import i am doing so there is nothing there to loose.
4.- when i ge to the mapping page i see all left and all right matching. and all the fields i want to import.
where else can i check?
