Cut and Paste text from Outlook Express to ACT 2009 brings unwanted tags

When I send or receive emails to/from clients I like to cut and paste them into ACT notes. Often when I do this the message also brings over unwanted tags. I think the tags are html.

Does anyone know how to avoid this? It's extremely annoying and time wasting as I have to delete them by hand.

You can try copying them into Notepad first, which will strip the HTML. Then from Notepad into ACT!.

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Greig... I haven't used OE for a while...

Can you tell it to display in RTF (as you can with Outlook)?
If so, would a copy-paste keep the formatting?

Re: Cut and Paste text from Outlook Express to ACT 2009 brings unwanted tags

Thanks Grieg. I'm hoping there's a way to do it without having to go through the extra step of copying to Notepad then to ACT but I appreciate the advice. It's strange...it doesn't happen all the time, only with some messages.

Could it have something to do with the format the sender sends me the message in?

There are settings I can change for sending mail in OE, HTML or Plain Text but I can't see why my mail sending settings should affect me cutting and pasting other people's messages.

The Notes area uses RTF and doesn't understand the HTML

If emails are sent as text or rtf, it would be ok

Thanks Mike. I guess that means if someone sends me an email in HTML then I will need to paste to Notepad first. I appreciate the explanation. Perhaps there's a setting in OE that will allow all incoming messages to be converted to plain text. I'll do some investigating. Thanks again!

I just checked and there IS a setting in Options under the "Read" tab that says "Read all messages in plain text." I've checked it and will keep my fingers crossed that this solves the problem. Thanks Mike!

Yup... that's what I was about to suggest.

The only issue is that you wont see any formatted emails

One problem at a time, Mike, one problem at a time! If I lose too much in recevied emails I'll just go with the paste to Notepad then to ACT option. Thanks, again, for the clarification.

You might also have a think about using ACT!'s Internet Mail client instead

Or using full Outlook
