Creating companies from your contacts

Hi Everyone

I have jsut installed ACT 10 and imported my database from act 6. No bother at all. What I wanted to know was is there a way to create companies from my contracts without having to do each one individually? Run a script or some thing.

If I can do this can I also then run something else to add all contacts to those businesses.

Thanks in advance for any help

Lee T.

Re: Creating companies from your contacts

You need an add-on to do that.

Stan Smith has two. Have a look at Company Maker and Company Maker pro: http://www.adsprogramming.com/products.htm

Or CRM-Service has a Company Builder: have a look at their site http://www.crm-service.com

What a surprise - you need to spend more money on a function that the program should perform right out of the box.

I haven't used this program for very long, but I must say every time I attempt to do something and look up these forums. All I seem to find is an add-on for an additional price, funny how older versions of Act (according to your faithful users) that used to have many functions that now need to be purchased, imagine that. Nickel and Dime for everything.

There's also anothe tool named "Create Companies from Contacts" that is available at the 123-addons.com site that will take all your contacts and create companies from them.

Re: Creating companies from your contacts

When I came into my new position to find out that the person that previously held this position had created over 8,000 contacts and zero companies, I was discouraged.  After I purchased an additional license for ACT for over $600, I was thrilled to be able to simply convert the companies in the contact records to companies in the companies tab.

Oops, you want our non-profit to pay over $100 for a 2Mb addon that does something that your software should automatically do?

Switching to High Rise at the start of the next fiscal year.  It's all online, and it will take our ACT database and create companies along with contacts from it.

The add-on do this is actually only $49.99. It's called Company Wizard and I've heard some good things about it.

Re: Creating companies from your contacts

I purchased Act 2011 Pro on April 26 of this year. I was used to an older version of Act and wasn't aware of the new company tab. I have entered 155 "contacts" so far and wanted to move those to the company tab. Is it still the case that you have to pay additional money for and addon to accomplish this task? I was already disappointed to find out that Act only gives you support for 30 days without paying for a "support package". They literally wouldn't answer a single question because I am 12 days past the initial period.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Creating companies from your contacts

Hello Ken,
Welcome to the Sage ACT! Community. Can you clarify exactly what you would like to do with these 155 contacts? Are you wanting to make them company records instead of contacts? Or do you want to add or link them to a company record?

Re: Creating companies from your contacts

What I would like to do is convert them from contacts into companies so that I can take advantage of the features the company tab offers.
