I'm using 2006 and don't see a way to setup a drop down list in the Opportunity User Fields. Is this possible and if so how? If not, what I'm trying to accomplish is generating an opportunity report that shows me new opportunities my reps are working on and basic marketing information about their prospects. Please advise.

For the customizable Opportunity User Fields, you should be able to first create a dropdown list, then associate with the field. Please see the following Knowledgebase article on managing fields and see the section on dropdown lists:
