Copied DB to new PC and can't access it without old PC being on

I just got a new laptop and transferred all my data and restored on the new one. I was able to restore it and use it on the new laptop.

However, this is only happening when the old laptop is turned on. When the old one is off, it gives me an error that it can't locate that PC and i need to check the IP address and MySQL.

It is not a shared DB. DO i need ot remove/delte the data from the old PC or is tehre some other way to properly transfer to a new PC?

Re: Copied DB to new PC and can't access it without old PC being on

One more thing I noticed, when I opened on the new laptop, it did not carry over some of my settings. I noticed the default view did not have the same columns as the old laptop. I went ahead and changed it the way I had it and today i open it up and it reverted back to the default again.

When I installed on the new laptop I restored the orignial DB and the personal files. Is there something else I need to do to restore all the settings?

hi

you are still accessing the data from the old pc,

i would recomend to make a backup via ACT, then take the backup and restore it on the new pc, (under a new name)

then you should be fine

i did as instructed and it did not work. here is the error that comes up.

i don't think i had this problem in the past when i moved a DB. why can't I just move it or restore it without being linked to the old pc?

Unable to connect to the database. Please verify ACT7 SQL instance is running

Try opening the database with the ADF file rather than the PAD file.

How do I restore with the ADF file? When I bakcup it creates a zip file and I don't see an ADF file in the archive

The ADF file is the actual database file. The PAD file is just a pointer and when copied from one computer to another becomes invalid. Launching the database with the ADF option will create a new and correct PAD file.

i tried opening the ADF file and same error. It first states it is verifying the database and then says it can't find the previous PC.

i then tried opening the new PAD file that was created and it seems to work now. the previous PC is shut off and it works now.

I did lose the customized columns but everything else seems to have come over ok. I'll keep checking though.
