I had to uninstall net framework 3.5 and 3.0 before windows would allow me to uninstall 2.0. I then did a uninstall / reinstall of ACT and we are back in buisness. I assume that there wil be some sort of update from Sage for this conflict with the hot fix that microsoft has just issued.

Just to add on to this, this can also be caused by a Custom Layout. If you are able to see other views correctly (Groups/Companies) and it errors on Contacts, replace the alyout with the default layout, run full maintience and it should now appear. Once the demo layout loads, you can choose yours again.
Worked for me, and hopefully will help others.
