Is anyone receiving the error message "Unable to synchronize with the specified ACT! database. Unspecified Error" and were you able to fix it? I've checked and all the settings are correct - as far as I can tell.
It seems my db is synchronizing but the error message pops up several times after a synchronization - typically I have to restart my pc to get it to stop.

You don't mention what version of ACT you have - or what you handheld you are trying to sync with. That would be helpful info.
Has Companionlink support not been able to help? When I upgraded to ACT 2010, syncing with my Blackberry broke - but the guys at Companionlink had me back up and running with a software fix overnight. Excellent service.
