Checking SQL Server Status

Installing ACT! Pro 2012 on a laptop with Windows 7.  Installing from a disk and install is not progressing due to this message: Checking SQL Server Status.  How can I get the install to move along?

Thanks!

Re: Checking SQL Server Status

Hello Lstars96,

Welcome to the ACT! Community!

Can you provide some additional information about your issue:

- Did it complete?

- Or did it finally fail/give an error message?  If yes, what was error?

- Was SQL Server already installed on the computer?

- Were you upgrading from a previous version of Sage ACT!?

Re: Checking SQL Server Status

Thanks for the response!

After 6 hours of "checking SQL server status" message, I pulled the disk from the drive and shut the computer down.

SQL Server 2005 is installed on the system, as is ACT 2008.

Thanks!

Re: Checking SQL Server Status

Are there any programs, besides ACT! 2008, using SQL Server 2005?

If not, uninstall ACT! 2008, then all components of Microsoft SQL Server.  Reboot the computer, then install Sage ACT! 2012.

Sage ACT! 2012 is attempting to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and it appears to be having trouble updating the 'ACT7' instance within SQL Server 2005.  Removing ACT! 2008 and SQL Server, then reinstalling 2012 will be a fresh install of SQL Server 2008 R2 without trying to update an existing piece.

Uninstalling ACT! 2008 and SQL Server 2005 will not affect your database files, assuming they are not located within the C:\Program Files (x86)\ACT\Act for Windows directory.  By default they will be located under your 'Documents\ACT' folder.
