Changing Opportunity Process/Stages

I am a brand new ACT! user and am having difficulty changing the different processes and stages in the opportunity tab. I thought you were supposed to go to "Tools" and then "Define Fields", but no matter how I go about it, "Define Fields" is grayed out and I can't click it.

 

What am I doing wrong??!!!

Most likely you are running on Windows 7 and have the UAX active. Try launching ACT! by right clicking on the icon and selecting the option Run as Administrator.

I logged in as the Administrator (the way you suggested to try it as well as into the Admin Login) and, while other options that were gray before became available, the "Define Fields" is still gray.

 

I don't get why!

 

Any other suggestions??

It would be whatever the default is, because I have not gone in to customize any rights for the logins.

The default is Standard and does not have rights to define fields. The ACT! administrator would need to change hour rights in Tols | Manage Users.

Well, the administrator's account can't even "Define Fields". Do you mean I have to contact ACT! directly to have them give us more permissions to change opportunity fields?

Did they launch ACT! using the right click and select Run as Administrator

Make sure you aren't a remote user. Only a "host" computer can make define fields changes.

 

Layouts can be edited on any machine, and can be used by all users, but new fields can only be created by the host computer.
