Recently I received an email stating ACT would need to be upgraded because of some third party issue. Today I received an email with a download link for 20.0 Update 9. Whenever I try to download and run this update I get a message that the update did not install correctly. When I try to update through notifications the update is downloaded but then ACT closes and nothing happens.

I am running Windows 10. I currently have ACT Pro 20.0.159.0 Update 3. I cannot seem to be able to upgrade this version.

First thing to check: are you a windows Administrator when running the update? IF no, change user. IF yes, run the update with right-mouse-click "Run as Administrator"

I started ACT as an administrator when I was using notifications to try to update.

So when you go into Help|About Act!, you still see
Act! Pro Version 20.0.159.0, Update 3
Correct?

Correct.

Do I need to reinstall ACT and then try the upgrades?

You really shouldn't need to reinstall Act. I have updated a number of installations from Update 7 to Update 9 without incident on Windows 7 Pro.
Earlier updates for Act 20.0 can be found here.

I have tried earlier updates without success. I always have the same issue.

Just trying to understand your environment ...
Did you upgrade to v20.0 from a previous version of Act?
Are you on Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10?
