Cannot Run ACT in Safe Mode

I am running Act 2010 on Windows 7.

I am having some issues with my computer and want to move my database to a new machine, also windows 7.

I want to run a current backup, but ACT will not start (along with most of my other programs) so I have been operating in safe mode.

ACT will not start in safe mode because Protexis is not running.

I went into services and tried to manually start it, but it would not start in safe mode.

So - can I run ACT in safe mode?

is therea way to run act temporarily without protexis?

Is there another way to move my database?

Can I run protexis in safe mode?

Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Cannot Run ACT in Safe Mode

SQL doesn't start in Safe Mode ... therefore you can't run ACT! that way.

Try Selective Startup as per this ACT! Knowledge Base article -

Re: Cannot Run ACT in Safe Mode

Thanks.  When I try to run actdiag it does not open.

I went into safe mode again and was able to run actdiag, but I get an error:

Could not connect to the SQL Server Instance

I click Yes to continue anyway and when I go into the Database List I get an error:

A network-related or instance-specific error ocurred while establishing a connection to the SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces. error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Any other ideas?

Re: Cannot Run ACT in Safe Mode

Looks like it is working now, thank you!  WhenI started in Selective Startupthe SQL Server Browser and SQL Server (ACT7) were not started.  So I found this page helpful to get them started:  http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19640/kw/access%20the%20database%20check%20...

Thanks so much!
