Can't access my database

I am getting this message:

"The database Company file cannot be accessed. In order to access the database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It maybe necessary to disable any firewall software on your computer or the server."

So my computer IS the server, I have all of my firewall software off and I still cannot access the database. I don't know what the problem could be now or how to troubleshoot. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Can't access my database

are you able to open any other database in act?

if not goto start | run | services.msc | start the service sql server(act7)

should be able to open the db

do you have the database on the local machine?

if so goto start | run | actdiag

select databases in this window

check the status of your database

if it says online delete the <database name>.pad file

try to open the database using adf file

to open the adf file goto file | open database | change file type to act database.adf

if your database is listed as suspect in actdiag

goto start | run | services.msc | stop sql server(act7)

goto the location where ur database is

copy the .adf, .alf database files folder to a different location

goto start | run | actdiag

select database

highlight your database

select the option delete database

open act, try to open using the adf file

if ur db is on the network follow this online kb:

should workSmiley Happy

Re: Can't access my database

I am having the same problem, but when I try to start SQL Server (ACT7), I get the error message: "Could not start the SQL Server (ACT7) on LocalComputer.  Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."  Any ideas on how to correct this?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled SQL and ACT! several times, without success.  Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't access my database

do you have any other instance of ms sql server

if not goto add/remove programs

remove ms sql server 2005

microsoft native client, vss writer ,sql server support files, msxml 6.0

reboot the machine

insert the disk, browse to the cd folder

goto dependencies folder | run sql installer |

Re: Can't access my database

Thank you.  I had tried those things before but I repeated the actions again, exactly in the sequence you stated.  No luck.  When I tried to uninstall MS SQL Server 2005, it wasn't there -- only Server Support Files and Native Client.  And after the reinstallation, it is still not on the program list.

Re: Can't access my database

try this article:

How to Manually Create the Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 (Express Edition) ACT7 Instance

once you are able to create act7 instance

try these steps in the run window

To configure the ACT7 Instance by creating a new SQL password, please use the following steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  2. Type cmd in the Open field, and then click OK. The Command Prompt appears.
  3. If you are not at C:\ then type cd c:\ and press Enter.
  4. Type sqlcmd -S(local)\ACT7 -E and press Enter.
    Type sp_password NULL, bluesky,'sa'
  5. Type go and press Enter
  6. Type Exit and press Enter
  7. Type cd C:\Program Files\ACT\Act for Windows and press Enter
  8. Type SecurityCmdLnApp.exe bluesky and press Enter
  9. Type exit and close the window

this is the only other step you can try

Re: Can't access my database

Thanks again for this help.

When I tried to manually install the ACT7 Instance, I received the following error message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.

------------------------------

I thought I had uninstalled all of the SQL components.  Did I miss something?
