Can't Create or Edit mail merge letters

I just upgraded from Act! 6.0 to Act! 2008. There is a conversion routine to convert templates, which works on a hit-and-miss basis. Sometimes, a merge field within a document doesn't convert. Actually, about 9 out of 10 merge fields do convert, but one in ten is ignored. I tried to edit the template from the Act! Write menu, thinking that it will give me a list of available merge fields. Alas, no such luck. Act doesn't provide a dialogue box that has a list of Act merge fields. I can't edit the merge field either. I'm stuck. Following the Help File instructions doesn't work. Any ideas?

Alas, no such luck. Act doesn't provide a dialogue box that has a list of Act merge fields
