Can Not Get ACT 2012 Premium Trial to Install




Have tried over a dozen time's.

 

Windows 7 Untimate 64 bit running on a laptop stand alone a Dell M6500, Intell 620 cpu 8gb memory

 

below is last copy of install issue from Issue submission dialog box;

 

Any Suggestion???

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

 

The error indicates that the installation has identified a previous instance of Microsoft SQL Server (ACT7).  If there are no other programs using Microsoft SQL Server on this computer, uninstall Sage ACT! and uninstall all components of it through 'Programs and Features'. 

Once uninstalled, browse to 'C:\Program Files (x86)' and rename the 'Microsoft Sql Server' folder (ex: add '- old' to the end).

Attempt to install Sage ACT! (it will reinstall the Microsoft Sql Server program).

Greg,

      Program installed,  but will NOT open / connect when "Open an existing Sage ACT! database" is check, dialog box is empty. When I check the "The datdbase I want is not listed" the 2nd dialog box opens there is "ACT2012Demo" (this is at Location: Local Drive C:/User/Joseph/My Documents/ACT/ACT Data/Databases)

When highlighted and press open, I receive "Failed to Open a connection to the database"

When I try;

"Create a Sage ACT! database" in ACT
Fill in the name  and user name for a new database. I receive Error dialog box:

"The database (0) could not be accessed. In order to access the database, check your network connection and verfy that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable any firewall software on your computer or the server"

then ACT dialog Box

"ACT! encountered an error while performing your request. Please contat your adminstrator for asstance."

This is a stand alone laptop not connected to any network.

I did removing and reinstalling the SQL Server as described, still the same.

Any Comment or Suggestion?

It may be that the 'SQL Server (ACT7)' service did not install properly or is not started. 

 

Here is an article with steps to check for the service and start it: KB Article 28216

Once started, attempt to open/create a database.

 

If the service is not present, there was an issue during the installation Microsoft SQL Server.

       I did try this several times, not working.

 

SQL Server (ACT7) Running

SQL Server  Agent (ACT7) Stopped {will not start, when tried to start

SQL Server Browse Stopped {will not start, when tried to start

That is good that 'SQL Server (ACT7)' is running.  'SQL Server Agent (ACT7)' can be left stopped (it is stopped by default).  'Browser' should be started but isn't absolutely necessary, unless you are sharing a database hosted on this computer.

 

Try resetting the SQL password through the ACTDiag utility:

- Click Windows Start

- If XP, select Run

- If Windows 7/Vista, use Search field

- enter 'actdiag', press Enter

disclaimer then ACT! Diagnostics opens

- Click Server, select Server Security

- Click Reset SQL Password

 

Attempt to open/create database. 

 

If not able to open database, disable any anti-virus software you may have running and try again to open database.

 

If still unable to open database, it still appears that the SQL program is installed incorrectly.  Uninstall Sage ACT!, Uninstall ALL 'Microsoft SQL' components.  Once uninstalled, browse to 'C:\Program Files' and rename 'Microsoft SQL Server' (add '- old' to end).  Reboot and reinstall SQL manually: KB article 26994

Check the SQL configuration for disabled items:

- Go to Windows Start > select All Programs

- Open folder "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2" > select Configuration Tools > select SQL Server Configuration Manager

- Expand SQL Server Network Configuration

- Click Protocols for ACT7

 

In right side, the items should be as:

- Shared Memory > Enabled

- Named Pipes > Enabled

- TCP/IP > Enabled

- VIA > Disabled

 

If one or more of these are different, right click on it and select Properties > change to Enabled or Disabled as show above.

It appears that either something is blocking the communication or the installation of Microsoft SQL Server is corrupted.  Here is an article for adding exceptions to the Windows Firewall: KB Article 25125

 

If that doesn't resolve it, my next step would be to uninstall Sage ACT! and Microsoft SQL Server > remove the Microsoft SQL Server folder from Program Files > reboot into Selective Startup mode > install Sage ACT! (which will install SQL).  This will reduce the processes that may be interfering with the installation/communication.  Once it has installed and you have tested opening the program > reboot back to Normal, and test again.  You can also try rebooting into Selective Startup before uninstalling and testing opening ActDiag or a database.  Here is an article with instructions for Selective Startup: KB Article 14173
