I have ACT version 11.4 and am curious if there is any way ACT can actually run an activity series. I am spacifically asking if it can automatically send out preformatted emails and letters?

If you are using ACT! 2009 (version 11), then there is no automated way of performing activity series. Activity series have to be run manually. The most you can do is set up a trigger for one or more fields to bring up an activity series, which will launch and then you can schedule to run. In ACT! 2011, there is a new feature called Smart Tasks that can run scheduled tasks automatically, although for pre-formatted emails you would need to subscribe to Sage E-marketing for ACT! (Swiftpage).
Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.
