I have ACT! Pr 2013 v184.108.40.206. Imagine the scene, you start entering a contact's details, you get a phone call, you turn back to your screen and all the contact has vaporized. This has happened many times. If you save during some part of the entering of the data and then carry on entering the rest of the data you have to resave within 2 minutes unless the unsaved data vaporizes. As an experiment, I fully entered a contacts details, set my stop watch, then saw the contact disappear totally. I have tried having the database on my PC C:/ drive and on the server and that does not affect the '2 minute rule'
I have been using ACT! for over 15 years but never had this happen before. A call to the Help Desk just resulted in the advice of save every field entry! I was about to recommend the use of ACT! throughout my Company but feel uneasy at doing this now.
Any ideas of what is happening? Is this a bug?

I have seen it. I can't comment on whether it is a bug or a "feature" but as work around, make sure and hit the save button as soon as you create the contact. That should preclude it from disapearing.

That is what I am doing now. But I have never seen it before in any previous versions; nor is it a 'feature' I like! Because of being contantly interrupted by phone calls and visits I am having to save after every field entry. Imagine if it was a Word document that disappeared if you had not saved it after 2 minutes. Glad to hear I am not the only one seeing this. How do we get it changed?

Actually I've seen this before and not just in the ACT! program. In most cases I caused the problem by switching from a screen dialog I was working on to another (called changing focus) before saving. With some programs like Word you;re working in a temp file that has a perodically automatic save. With the ACT! program, when you add a new concact you are actually working in a screen dialog that isn't saved until you do a save or move to a different record. I suspect that you have something operating in the background that's on a two minute timer that causes temporaiy loss of screen focus. One of the ACCs wrote a small free addon that will do a periodic save of the ACT! screen automatically. I don't remember for sure who but try checking Durkin Computing.

Thank you Roy. I shut everything obvious down on the PC and it still does it. I can get round it by saving every field entry but disappointed I have to do so when I never have in the past.
I looked at Durkin but could not find the addon.

I would save before taking a break or on occasion, you should n't have to save after every field entry.
If you let a record sit for a few minutes (like 5 or more) without saving, you may be a candidate for this issue. Otherwise it's rare.

Does this prob happen after ACT!2013 database has been opened for more than 5 minutes?
If not, recommend that when you first open your ACT! database, you wait at least 2 or 3 minutes before you start doing any data entry. ACT! may still be doing some startup things in background. Same with windows. After your boot up your pc, recommend you wait til it has time to get fully loaded, checks for usual system and software updates, etc..
Do you have your most current Windows OS Updates applied? Recommend you manually check now. such as .net frameowrk 4 ?
Do you have most current Service Pak / Hot fix 3 for your ACT!2013 pro?

The free add-on Roy was referring to is named Auto Refresh.
Not only will it auto-refresh but the add-on also auto-saves.
