Building Group Based on Field Criteria - what am I missing?

OK - am I missing something very obvious or is Act unable to do the following:

 

I want to build groups based on specific field criteria. I'm aware of the query selection capability for DYNAMIC group membership, but I want them to be static, NOT dynamic.

 

It seems I can only make a static group by looking up the contacts/companies in a window. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It will take an hour!

 

What am I missing?

Hello mrootes,
By definition, the static method is intended for manually adding members. These would be permanent members of the group regardless of field values. It sounds like you want to take a group of contacts based on a field criteria, then add them as static members. To do this:
- Perform a Lookup or Advanced Query of the contacts based on the field or fields criteria
- In the resulting list, you can either:
* New Group: Lookup > Groups > Save Lookup as a Group
* Add to Existing Group: Select all contacts in this list, right-click and select Add Contact to Group
