Blank drop down menus (opportunity list)

One of my users is having trouble using the opportunity list.

He opens act, presses "Go to Opportunities" and then tries to change the "Status" and "Stage" drop down options. Instead of getting a list to choose from, a blank white square appears in the top left of the screen which then disappears when he clicks elsewhere. He can not use the mouse to make a selection, and can not use the arrow keys to change his option. Basically, those two drop downs are blank and the list doesn't appear correctly. The other dropdowns on the screen work just fine, and other users do not have this problem.

I tried running the update service with no effect. We are using Act 2006.

How can I restore those drop down menus so that they work correctly?

In Help | about, is the version 8.02?
 
Do the filters work if the user opens the demo database?

It is version 8.0.2.82 and it happens in other databases as well, not just the one he uses.

Then it sounds like something has messed up the program... you will probably need to uninstall/reinstall to fix it.
 
Uninstall any version of ACT! from Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Use the Uninstaller.exe from the ACT! KB 19338 (the exe, not the manual uninstall)
Uninstall .Net Framework (all versions)
Perform a Selective restart with MSCONFIG as per ACT! KB 14499
Install .Net 1.1 Framework (only 1.1, not 2 or 3) from MS web site
Install ACT! 8.02 full install
Install ACT! 8.02 patch if the previous install was the previous build
Restore from Selective Startup Mode with MSCONFIG
Reboot

Went through all the steps, no luck. Still having the same problem.

And it's only one user?

Something on the machine must be causing an issue, but I've not heard of this before... so no idea where to look

It's one computer.  No matter who logs on there gets the issue, and if he logs on elsewhere he is fine.

Does the same thing happen on that machine with the demo database?

Did you do the full uninstall/reinstall?

I haven't tried the demo database since the full uninstall/reinstall, but it did the same thing before in both databases.

My only guess, then, might be a video driver issue... try getting an updated driver from the manufacturer.

 

Failing that, maybe an ACT! consultant or tech support can remotely log in and see if they can see something on the system causing this
