Back up failed because "The parent's full name is to long for the item"

I do not know how a back up I made causes caos but I back up daily to an external drive.  Somehow the string became so big the back up was cancelled.  I do not know what to do to fix it.  I tried to back it up to a new folder on the C drive but that did not work.  If I can remove the junk after the path that it normally followed, I would but I cannot get rid of the junk after the path.

Look in your attachments folder and your layouts folder for a file that might exceed this length.  It is possible that one or more of these files has become corrupted.  if so, you will need to rename the offending file with a file name of a shorter length.
