Attaching Document to History causing crash

I'm new to this - i just downloaded Sage Act 2011 Pro. And when i go to attach a document  (mostly PDF's) to a customers history, the program freezes and has to be crashed and restarted. This has been goign on since i downloaded the program. And hasn't worked right at all.

Help!?!?!?!?

Can you provide some addtional information about your issue:

- What operating system is your computer?

- Is this a shared database (are others also accessing it)?  If yes, do they also have the issue?

- You mention 'mostly PDFs'; does this occur with other types of documents?

- Does this also happen when adding a document to the 'Documents' tab?  Or just when adding to a History item?

- Does it occur with very small documents as well as large?

I am having this problem;  here are my particulars

 

Can you provide some addtional information about your issue:

- Is this a shared database (are others also accessing it)?  If yes, do they also have the issue? Shared, two uses, same crash.

- You mention 'mostly PDFs'; does this occur with other types of documents? All documents

- Does this also happen when adding a document to the 'Documents' tab?  Or just when adding to a History item? Both

- Does it occur with very small documents as well as large? Both

Hello Tom,

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

 

This sounds like a possible permissions issue.  Try:

- Open the demo database (or create a new database) on a workstation and attach a document.  Successful?

- Can you attach a document to the database when signed into ACT! on the computer that hosts the database?

- On the computer that hosts the database: check the Windows Event Viewer for errors

 

- Update the permissions for the 'Attachments' folder for your database to include 'Everyone/Full Control'. 

  - Close Sage ACT! 

  - right click on 'Attachments' folder > select Properties

  - click Security tab

  - click Add > enter name 'Everyone' > click 'Check Names'

  - click OK

  - highlight 'Everyone' > enable 'Full Control'

  - click OK

  - Open database and test

Sorry, DB is hosted on server that I am not admin.  However, demo DB hosted on my local drive allows attachments.  I will forward your suggestions to my IT dept and let you know the result.

Well; the item seemed to resolve itself.  I just tried, and was successful in attaching to working DB;  No intervention on my  or my IT department"s part. 

 

I am sorry I did not get to test your suggestions.
