I agree but you need to contact Swiftpage who now own ACT

Right - Swiftpage.

 

Well, I did call them and unless one has a support plan - which I elected, due to the steep price relative to the purchase cost, not to purchase - they provide very limited support.  Which essentially consisted of pointing me back to the same KB article you all did.

 

So my question is - could removing the program and reinstalling it (after backing up, of course) - do the trick.  Any downside to that?

There should not be any downside to this and yes it might well sort the problem out so go ahead. It does not remove the database and does not alter SQL so all should be safe. As always make a backup of your database first just in case.
