Another guy with "can't open database" but with more info

Hi so first off I'm running ACT! by Sage 2010 Version 12.1.181.0, Hot Fix 1 on a winxp machine (all hoxfix/sevice packs up to date)

I've gone through the trouble shooting tips and can't start the SQL ACT7 service.  My folder options are correct and I can't even create a new database much less open or restore an old one.

Here's my latestest error log:

2011-09-23 11:57:50.52 spid5s      Cannot recover the master database. SQL Server is unable to run. Restore master from a full backup, repair it, or rebuild it. For more information about how to rebuild the master database, see SQL Server Books Online.

Otherwise, restore from backup if the problem results in a failure during startup.

Any ideas?? (i'm not super comper savvy)

Thanks

PS I can't think of a single change I've made since it was working...it simply seemed to stop!  My whole business is on here Smiley Sad

error log isn't as important assteps you've tried?  What did you try?  what happened?

Re: Another guy with "can't open database" but with more info

I've tried:

-Making sure I'm logged on as the same user (though I'm the only user)

-see that permissions to use the folder are correct

-the files/folders are not compressed

-anti virus disabled completely

-manually started the service (starting act7 sql always results in event viewer event 7024.)

-checked the event logs for clues (did notice a lot of tcp/ip jam ups and noticed that act is using pipes and tcp/ip is there a connection?)

-deleted pad files and oped actdiag but couldn't connect to the server to proceed

-Checked C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA to verify that the user has permissions to the folder

-I also checked network placed and noticed the database had created a network place on june 30th (I didn't do that...why did that happen?)

basically I've tried every tip I could find on the forum short of unistalling and reinstalling ACT or the sql instance.

not only is my biz at a stand still  (well I do have a pad and pencil)  but here's the othe big concern: I haven't made any noteable changes to my system (I installed a soundcard driver - that's it)  and suddenly all this has happened.  Is this going to become a reocurring issue (provided I get it working again at all?)

I would suggest to to services.msc and make sure that the SQL database and browser is started as I have seen this a lot lately or the SQL service not being started.

That's part of the list of things I tried above.  Here's some screen shots:

I could go for the reinstall but am I going to find myself in the same situation a few months down the road?  I'm not even sure reinstalling would work... I liked ACT I hope this can get soved.

Re: Another guy with "can't open database" but with more info

If you do a google search of the error SQL error 3417 I saw there were a number of responses each seem t be related to some files missing from the installation. some of the reasons from this could be

1. compressed files on hard drive

2. Delete files

One mentioned in a wordpress "Decoding the Web" about the data folder missing from the SQL directory. so will a reinstall fix the problem, maybe, will it happen again? it seems to depend on what else is going on on your system but I think one of these responses will resolve your error unless you wanted to get a technical person to start looking at your machine.
