Full error message:
I have two licences sharing a central database on a server. ACT has been functioning and stable for about two weeks. This happens on trying to start the program, I have tried uninstalling two or three times.

Here is the full message typed out so it's searchable:
An exception occurred while initializing module 'SocialMediaModule'.
- The exception message was: The type initializer for 'Act.Shared.WebServiceIntegration.ServiceProvider' threw and exception.
- The Assembly that the module was trying to be loaded from was:Act.UI.SocialMedia, Version=18.104.22.168, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=ebf6b2ff4d0a08aa.
Check the InnerException property of the exception for more information. If the exception occured while creating and object in a DI container, you can exception.GetRootException() to help locate the root cause of the problem.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated...

Solve Many ACT! Problems yourself.
Make note of your COMPLETE Operating System info and Include that info when posting on ACT! Forum.
Also post your Complete Version of ACT! on Forum.
Insure your PC has enough Power- Need at least 2.2 gig Processor and a minimal 4gig RAM - recommend 6-8 gig of RAM. Reference www.kingston.com
Manually Check for Windows Updates - Also check the optional stuff as sometimes Microsoft places needed items in their Optional list.
Check to see: what is your Complete current version of ACT! - Reference Help / About
Then Goto The ACT! Download Center to see if you need to apply any Service Paks / Hotfixes - Reference link http://act.com/support/download-center/
Then if you apply any Service Paks.Hotfixes, go back again and Manually Check for Windows Updates and apply as needed.
Still have Problems? Reference link to ACT! Knowledgebase www.kb.act.com to search for your exact Error Condition/Resolve.

Thanks Bill, I spent a great deal of time trying to fix this, but it looks like I have some behind the scenes OLE and registry errors, so I have to wipe everything and reinstall Windows...wish me luck!

Did you try running a registry cleaner yet? free= ccleaner - I use Regzooka. Sometines its easier and quicker to reformat hard drive and reload system and start over. Especially if older system. Then you should feel better having fresh system.
Just be sure to get all your .net 4 framework stuff installed before installling office and ACT!..

For what it's worth....
This post is over 3 years ago, however we cam across this yesterday, Act! Premium v 18 and Windows 7.
We did fix it but only on re-creating of the Windows profile having done everything else conceivable including regressing the Windows installation, re-installing .Net. Of course removing Act! preferences, Act! reinstalls, deleting dependentdlls.xml etc.
So if coming across this at least in our experience it isn't a OS rebuild needed, just recreate the Windows profile having saved anything in My Documents, desktop, and browser settings etc. You need to logon as domain or machine administrator to blow away the old Windows profile and create a new one.

I've got the same issue yesterday with Act 19 and Windows 7
The solution I could find was to recreat the user.config file. (You can see in the logviewer it's the cause of the error)
