Adding more than one user to an opportunity

We have a specialist that oversees certain products in our portfolio, so to keep an accurate view of his opportunities that he is working with the day to day rep we would like to be able to add more than one rep/user to an opportuity.  Does anyone know of a way to do this?

If you added a custom field to the opportunity layout, perhaps labeled Specialist Rep with a drop-down list of the users who fit that role, would that suffice? The respective reps could simply right click in that field and run a lookup to give them a list of all the opportunities where they are represented as specialist. In addition, since dynamic rules for groups supports the Opportunity entity you could create groups representing each rep and populate them based on the content of the field Specialist Rep

Would that custom field be able to shown on the opportunity reports?  That way I could see what the list looks like for the specialist/

You could add it to an Opportunity report, I would be inclined to use a dashboard or even drill down from a dashboard to expose opportunity list view and just include that field in the list view. Could then one click export to Excel if you wanted to.

Actually there are several ways this could be done. One method is the one suggested in this thread and yes the custom field could be added to an oppertunity report or subreport. Another method would be to link the oppertunity to the specialist's contact record then all the oppertunities they were involved in would show under the oppertunities tab on their contact record. Again there would be several ways to include the information in reports.

One caveat if you have multiple contacts associated with it or if you have multiple products on the opportunity:  if you use an addon product for a dashboard, it will duplicate/triplicate/quadruple the entire opportunity.  So if you have a single opportunity for $5,000 associated with two people, your opportunity totals will be $10,000.  If you have 4 line items under your product for the same opportunity, the total would be $40,000 -- it really skewers the numbers.
