Before going much further you need to be sure this is database related or system related. Open the demo database and test the same function, does it work or does it lock up. If it locks up then it is probably video driver related and not program related.
If in the demo database it does not lock up then you might try running a check and repair from the tools menu
Failing this go to start run and type in actdiag
Go to the database list and select your database and run the additional repair utilities in there
Close restart your system and test again.

Thanks Paul, the strange thing is it does not always happen. I just tried and it works fine now. It will continue working until the next time I start the computer up and it may or may not work?
