'Add contact to group' button not working

Hi all

I'm running ACT 2008 and have a strange issue.  Whenever I click on 'add contact to group' in the 'Groups/companies' tab in a contact's details, the application just hangs, not responding at all.  I have to end task to get around it.

It was working last week!  Any ideas?

Can you see if it works in the Demo database to see if it's database corruption of damage to an ACT! file?

Also, what build of ACT! from Help | about?

Just tried it on the demo database - doesn't work either.

If it also fails on the demo, I can only think a reinstall of ACT! as something might have become damaged.

Although, you could try using ACTDIAG to delete the Preferences first

Right, reinstalled ACT and it's still doing it.  To further complicate matters, my colleage is using the same database synchronised and his works fine.

Any ideas?  I'm getting a little tired of these ACT perculiarities!

I've not seen or heard of it before... I can only think something on your system might be conflicting with it

When it hangs, does the Process Tab in Task manager show anything running?

Nope, nothing.  It's very odd - it's as though there's a window open that isnt visible - when you try and click anything it 'bongs' at you, if that makes sense.

Is it possibly a .net framework issue or am i barking up the incorrect tree?

Re: 'Add contact to group' button not working

That's possible... it so, try this method to reinstall (backup first, just in case):

This is a procedure I wrote to get the most clean install possible:
Uninstall any version of ACT! from Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Use the Uninstaller.exe from the ACT! KB 19338 (the exe, not the manual uninstall)
Uninstall .Net Framework (all versions) - this does NOT apply to Vista users as .Net 2.0 is part of the OS and can't be uninstalled
Uninstall any MS SQL items from the Control Panel if istill there
Uninstall MSXML Services from Control Panel if it's still there
Perform a Selective restart with MSCONFIG as per ACT! KB 14499
Install .Net 2.0 Framework from MS web site (only for XP, not Vista)- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en
Manually install MS SQL as per ACT! KB 19386
Install ACT! 10
Install ACT! 10.01 patch if the previous install was the previous build
Restore from Selective Startup Mode with MSCONFIG
Reboot

I have exactly the same problem - I'm running Act Version 10.0.3.182, Hotfix 1 with Vista Ultimate on this machine and it worked fine until just recently doing a Vista update (perhaps coincidence).  I just checked the other machines I synch this database (all of them are using XP Pro as the operating system) with.  They all work fine.  I have tried rebuilding the database and no dice.  It's the pop-up of the group window assignment window from the tab within a contact record that appears to be the problem

I did that whole uninstall/reinstall/update process and the problem didn't get fixed Smiley Sad.
