Btw, my demo doeesn't work either.  And I deleted preferences via ActDiag.exe and still no go.

It was the xml files.  The tech when I called Act had me delted them and voila, the group assignment was back.  Relief Smiley Happy.

Do you know which XML files?

 

Most would be deleted by the ACTDIAG remove prefs or the uninstall...

I too am having this problem!

 

When I click the space bar, the missing pop up window is closed, because then I am able to use ACT (as you refer to freezing).

 

How can I get the popup to appear?

I am having the same problem as others. That is, the add/remove groups button in the Contact record Groups/Companies tab (as well as in the Contact Detail toolbar at top of page) freezes Act with no popup box appearing, and it can only be unfrozen by hitting the space bar. Impossible to add a contact to a group like this, though it is still possible to go to Groups to add/remove contacts and add in like that.

I am using latest Hotfix 4, running Windows 7 Professional.

I first noticed this when I added a new contact that Act said was a duplicate of a blank contact. When I then deleted the blank contact, I afterwards tried to use the add/remove groups buttonin the newly added contact, and that was when I noticed the freezeup. I have tried everything short of reinstalling Act, which I hope I don't need to do. Is there any way to fix this?

Sorry for taking 15 months to respond Mike.

 

Here's what I did and it just worked again for 2010.

 

First backup your data, just in case Smiley Happy 

 

This is the fix for the xml file corruption - go into the following folder for the fix:

%appdata%

Rename the Preferences Sub Directory and the file preferencesBak.xml

Reboot Act and voila . . .

 

This will refresh all the .xml  files in preferences and the folder itself and seems to work every time I run into this scenario, which I have now with two versions.
