Activity created from Opportunities does not keep association with opportunity after saving

Hi, I have ACT! by Sage 2010 Version 12.0.409.0, Hotfix 2.

 

When an activity is created from Opportunities the dialog automatically associates with the current opportunity from which the activity was created.  However, when the activity is saved it does not feature on the activity tab in the opportunity detail.  That is, when it is saved it loses its association with the opportunity.  The only was to renew the association is to go to the contact and manually associate and save.  This time the association will be maintained upon saving.

 

While not a critical fix, it would be great if this was repaired for some future product update.

I was not able to duplicate this issue in ACT! 2010 Hotfix 2. Here are the steps I did:

- Opened an Opportunity from the Opportunity Detail view

- Under the Activity tab for the Opportunity, I created a new call

The call showed up under the Activity tab for the Opportunity as well as the contacts associated with the Opportunity

 

If you followed a different process with different results, please post them here.

Thank you for following the thread Greig.

 

Yes, you did replicate the process as I have.  I still confirm that an activity created from Opportunity Detail does not maintain the automatic association with the contact (whether that contact is associated with the Opportunity or not).  Further, if a contact is selected in the Contact Detail and an activity is created for that contact and also associated with any Opportunity then that association with the selected Opportunity is also lost upon saving.  Strangely however, if the activity is subsequently edited by reselecting the Opportunity association then upon the second save the association is maintained.

 

Strange this could not be replicated or it does not already appear in the 'user discussions' or knowledgebase.  Obviously unique to my well maintained system (XP Professional).  I hope somewhere down the line a fix 'coincidently' repairs the problem as it is annoying.

Are you able to duplicate this issue on your machine using the demo database (ACT2010Demo)?

As I have no need for the Demo database I had deleted it.  However I just created a new database and the problem was replicated.  Check and repair / reindex run periodically with scheduler.
