New to the community so hi first of all.
I've been using SalesForce at work and am about to go self employed. My partner used to use Act and prefers the system to SalesForce for several reasons.
Anyway, long story short - we are both going to sign up for the trial but we want the accounts linked as I need to pass leads through to him - is this possible?
Also, I used a MacBook - are there any plans for a Mac version of Act.. Not a problem if not as I can boot camp.

Given that ACT! 2005 and later is built on MSSQL and the ,NET Framework, a native MAC version isn't very likely.
To answer you main question, there are several ways that synchronization can be setup between the two systems and that would accomplish what you want.

I have setup Act and created a database.
What I am now really interested in is the ability to provide my colleague with leads. E.g. I get a prospect and want to add that prospect to his lead list. I'd also like to track it still as well.
Is anybody able to outline the steps?
