Are databases created with ACT 2010 (sql 2005) compatible with/interchangeable with those created with sql 2008??
I have new Win 8 computer and it appears I will have to install ACT 2012 or 2013.

When you open the old database on a new version of ACT! it upgrades the database to the new version of SQL. You should purchase ACT! 2013. ACT! 2013 is the only version that will officially support Windows 8. Windows 8 will be officially supported when Service Pack 1 for ACT! 2013 comes out which should be sometime next month.

The databases are not interchangeable. You would need to upgrade your databases all the the same version. There is not an option to downgrade an ACT database to an earlier version.
