Act V17 Act! Scheduler Fails to Launch

Selecting Act! Scheduler from the Tools menu produces no response in that the scheduler window fails to open. There is no error message. Other than this issue Act runs normally on this PC.

 

Act Scheduler service is running. Rebooting does not change the symptoms. However on reboot I see a UAC message that act.scheduler.ui.exe wants to make changes. Answering yes does not change symptoms.

 

  • Act! Pro Version 17.0.151.0, Hot Fix 1
  • Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit
  • Act was upgraded from V11
  • This PC is hosting the Act database
  • Other PCs running the same version of Act do launch the scheduler window

Is the next step to uninstall and reinstall Act on this PC?

try starting the sheduler GUI as admininstrator.

Launching Act.Scheduler.UI.exe as an Administrator activates the UAC prompt and opens the scheduler. Thanks for the workaround. 

 

Is there a way to have the Act Tools menu item accomplish this rather than having to use a workaround?

You have two choices to eliminate getting the UAC nag: one is to make an exception for ACT!  in the UAC using the Windows control panel or two is to lower or disable the UAC using the Windows Control Panel.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Act! initially resolved the failure of the Scheduler to launch from the tools menu.

 

However, after several days the Tools menu Scheduler again fails to launch. As a workaround I created a shortcut to Act.Scheduler.UI.exe on the desktop.

 

The UAC nag for Act.Scheduler.UI.ex on rebooting the PC and on launching the scheduler was unaffected by the reinstall.

I have successfully run this for 3 different customers and no longer have the UAC prompt.
