Every time I enter a new contact, I have to change the format of the phone number, or any number (fax, mobile, personal, etc...) to the United States format. It defaults everytime to not a country code but just "(1)" without the qoutations. How do I fix this so I dont have to do it each and every time.

Try adding a phone number and the country to your my record.

Do you have your country entered in the country field of the My record?

If you click on the ellipsis on a phone number field, you will be able to set the default format by selecting the Edit Formats button. In you General preferences, there is an option to always display the country code in phone fields (or not).
