Act! Pro 2011 restore files

My hard drive crashed, and I am trying to recover files to restore my data.

I am searching for both backup zip files, and the database, using both Delldatasafe, and recovery software.

Any help on what I should search for?

Obviously .zip files.

I assume the database is an .adf file

is the .pad file or the log files important?

I know tis stuff sounds basic, but I'm not having any luck finding these files.

Any other search strings that I can try?

or any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Act! Pro 2011 restore files

Were you using ACT!'s backups? Then it will be in a zip file

[DATABASENAME].zip

The ADF is the database, the alf can be rebuilt if necessary
The pad file is not needed at all

Here's some help on checking backups that you should do once setup again:

You can extract the database files from the .zip file. Then open the database .DBF file in your current version of ACT!. It will go through a conversion wizard, which will create an updated version of your 2000 database. To do this ACT! 2011:
- Open ACT! 2011 and go to File > Open Database
- On the Open screen, change the file type in the lower right to .DBF
- Browse the location where you extracted your database files and select the .DBF
- Follow the steps in the conversion wizard

In some cases, you may need to first update your ACT! 2000 database to ACT! 6.0, then upgrade that to the current version of ACT!. You can download a trial version of ACT! 6.0 for this purpose from here:

I also truied using the act 6 dbf, same error.

specified module could not be found. (exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

followed by error accessing or processing a PAD file.

Re: Act! Pro 2011 restore files

I am still trying to convert this file.

I loaded Act6 on a different laptop, and coverted Act2000 into Act6.

I did a backup and brought it onto my main computer.

Then I went into Act2011 and did GFile=> open database, and changed the file type to .dbf

I browsed the loaction where I stored the backup, and selected the .dbf file

I got the database conversion wiozard and selected "next".

I got the following error:

the database cannot open because one or more files are missing. Re-iondex the database and open the database again.

I went back to the laptop and reindexed the database, and repeat the process, and got the same error.

the date on the dbf has not been updated, as if I am pulling in and old dbf

any clues?

Re: Act! Pro 2011 restore files

Are you copying all 26 of the database files? It sounds like you are only copying the DBF file,

Re: Act! Pro 2011 restore files

That's a good Question! I copied the zip file and dbf file, but Imay not have copied them to the correct spot. Where should I copy or extract them into?

I was just following the instructions from this response:
