Act Error Code when looking up a contact

I'm currently running ACT! 2008 (10.0) Version, Hotfix 1.  When I open the database it opens the groups detail.  I do a lookup and it gives me contact list of the query.  When I pick one particular contact and try to show the contact, it gives me the error of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" and then takes me back to the Groups detail.


I've tried using ACTDiag to delete teh preferences but that did not work.  Any help would be appreaciated.

When you deleted preferences, did the getting started wizard appear when opening?  If it didn't, then the preferences didn't get delete.


Try deleting the preferences manually.

  1. Close ACT!
  2. Navigate to the following location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<User_Name>\Application Data\ACT\ACT for Windows <version>
        For Vista: C:\Users\<User_Name>\AppData\Roaming\ACT\ACT for Windows <version>
  3. Delete the following files if present: preferencesBak.XML, preferencesBak3.xml, preferencesBak6.xml, preferencesBak9.xml
  4. Open the Preferences folder and delete USPreferences206.xml and USPrefrences208.xml.old
  5. Open ACT!
