Act Database is running slow (for years)

Hi,

We've been using ACT for years and we've had problems for a long time.

Currently we use 6 computers and one server. What's curious is that on some days it works really fast and on other days it is extremely slow.

We have already done a database maintenance (almost daily) and deleted old histories.

We have 6000 contacts with about 40 notes each. (Unfortunately we are not allowed to delete them)

Is there a program or something similar with which you can solve this problem?

I would check things like antivirus are not doing scans when it's running slow or the likes of windows updates downloading as it's more likely something making it run slowly at these times rather than the act! DB

Re: Act Database is running slow (for years)

do a bit of a test.?

time to load to see login screen?

time to be able to enter data after you enter login?

compare a brand new user to an old user?

time to go the history view with today only on the filter.  compared to time to go to history view with full data (all dates, all users)

compare accross the network login to on the server login

compare the demo database to your production database

excessive number of uncleared activities will slow the database

How many total records?

how many total uncleared activities

basically were trying to discover is the database the issue, the server, the user, the program, or the network?

If the anti virus is not set to ignore the ACT database it will try to dynamically interrogate it every time it detects a change. This should also include the SQL ACT 7 instance.

This is the first place I look when investigating slow responding ACT databases.

I'm guessing that the laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 while the other machine used a fresh install of Windows 10 and the ACT! program. To fix the problem you will need to uninstall the ACT! program and the SQL ACT7 instance on the laptop and then reinstall the ACT! program which will create a later version of the SQL ACT7 instance on the laptop.
