I need to get this off my chest
How much testing is done prior to releasing a new version? This application has gone from great > good > ok > not so good > dreadful > absolute joke. This calendar sync issue has been around for years and we haven't seen any progress at all. I was looking forward to 20.1 as I thought the add-on rework might have fixed all the historical problems but oh boy was I wrong.
We have 350+ Act users and if it wasn't for me we would have moved on to an alternative. I persuaded the IT bosses to keep the application partly because a handful of our users love it but I very much doubt we'll be sticking with it come the next renewal. How can anyone recommend an application that has this many issues?

As a small business owner - I spend more time getting program to work or looking for addins that would give it some of the basic functionality of others like say salesforce

We are in the process of upgrading all of our users to 20.1 from 19.2. Fixing the 19.2 sync problems became so routine that we sent out a "how to fix Act sync issues" to all users. 20.1 hasn't fixed any of the calendar sync problems from 19.2. It'll work find one day then not the next. Duplicates seem to completely random.
We've called the support number multiple times to get more information on the sync issues with 20.1. The phone call always end with them telling us our database must be corrupt... Really? They asked us to create a new database for testing and guess what? Same issues with a brand new databases. Now we're told the issue is with Microsoft.
As for Salesforce..
Some of our users have been migrated as the constant Act problems was directly impacting the business. We use an on prem server application called Riva that does all the synchronization and we haven't run into a single problem since it went live.
I'm holding out for Act to be fixed but it's looking more and more likely it'll be dropped entirely at the end of our contract.

After 20+ years, I have finally given in and started to block of time to look into alternatives to ACT that retain much of the functionality that I like (groups, custom, queries, mail merge, to name a few), but with a vendor that doesn't take its customer base for granted. This thread perfectly encapsulates the attitude of Sage (or whoever owns the product now) towards its customers - "suffer through an increasingly dysfunctional product - we don't give a darn".
Here's a post from almost 3 years ago, from 3 different users - and not one public reply from ACT? One of the posters was told - incredulously - that his database was corrupt? Instead of taking responsibility and owning the problem, they blame it on the customer?
I've had enough. As I sit here watching the hourglass spin around for the umpteenth time after simply clicking "edit, lookup" (yes, I've done my database maintenance, etc.) I have reached the breaking point. I waste so much time sitting around waiting for the system to clear up, go shut the program down (I'm using the installed version, ACT Pro), shut every other program down, reboot my computer, restart it, and get as far as I can with ACT until the same aggravating, productivity-inhibiting problems crop up yet again that it's actually costing me productivity.
I've crafted a note that I'll be sending to a half dozen other CRM providers listing out the specific capabilities that are critical to me (must haves), a small number of nice-to-haves, and the "not-important-to-mes", so anyone whose positioning in the market is heavily weighted towards the "not-important-to-mes" will either self-select out or I'll disqualify them, and those who most align with my "must haves" will get a conversation with me and an opportunity to demo.
So sad, because this used to be a cutting-edge product.

Upgrade to V23 super smooth & working fine!
Many thanks to Michael Moldofsky. He has helped others in this forum and I reached out to him through LinkedIn for a question. v23 is working great. Took me about 30 minutes from download to working. With V21 Update 4, my Mail Merges were going out 50% to 100% blank. I use Outlook 365. Act & Outlook I use as apps on the Dell PC. I used Mail Merge with V23 and 100% of the emails went out with the template content. Who knows about tomorrow but today...I'm super happy with Act.
Any super cool email add-ons you folks recommend to improve upon my set-up?

We still have a handful of users running 20.1, I tested version 23 but we run into the exact same issues as we did with version 21 and 22.
After installing version 23 it was running great for 5 hours or so then Outlook started to lock up. Outlook will randomly stop responding which required us to end the Outlook process to fix it. Out of the 5 computers we tested all 5 ran into the same issue.

The native integration of Act! and Outlook is notorious for problems, best advise is spend a few dollars and get an addon as a replacement that performs without issues and offers way more useful functionality, try Xact Inbox
