Act! 2012 SQL2008 Doesn't start on boot

Act! 2012        XP          Avast       -    SQL set to automatic start.

Hi,

Act! 2012 is installed on XP and runs on three machines, but after each boot the SQL Server Configuration  Manager  shows 'Stopped'.

If I load Act an error is displayed & SQL is then started. The other two machines can't access Act until the database is started.

Avast is set to load after Act.

Any suggestions please?

So you can start SQL manually from the Services window, but it will not start automatically after a reboot?

Hello IS,
What happens if you disable Avast from the startup? Does the SQL Server service start upon reboot?

Hi Greig,

Thanks for the reply.

I've disabled Avast & rebooted - this time results are:

SQL Server (Act7)               Stopped  Automatic

SQL Server Agent  (Act 7)   Stopped  (Other, boot system disabled or unknown )

SQL Server browser            Running  Automatic

Checking again Avast warns my system is unsecured.

Right clicking and manual start works fine, SQL then starts up.

What if you do a selective startup?

Re: Act! 2012 SQL2008 Doesn't start on boot

Hi Greig,

Tried a selective start with all Microsoft services + SQL enabled.

SQL (Act7) still shows as 'Stopped', so remote users can't start it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ian

I've just uninstalled Act!, then removed SQL using control panel.

Re-installed Act! and SQL still shows 'stopped' - can anyone suggest a fix please?

Re: Act! 2012 SQL2008 Doesn't start on boot

Hi Greig,

Yes, it will start manually and stay running. Re-boot and it will be 'stopped'. Remote users can use Act! but only after I start it.

I uninstalled Avast yesterday so no anti virus on the machine, just the same - still stopped.

I  still haven't found a fix, and start manually every time. This causes problems for the other users who can't start the database.
