I am told that since we upgraded from a previous version to Act! 2012 14.1.108, adding custom fields to the layout is not possible. I am told this is a bug in this version and that we need to upgrade again in order to add custom fields to the layout? Is this really the case?
Thank you.

I've never heard of anything like that.

Hello K Lewis,
Welcome to the ACT! Community. No, this is not the case. In ACT! 2012, you can most certainly add custom fields to your database and add them to your layout. Are you having an issue when you try to do this?

Thank you Greig.
Yes, The fields that were created several years ago (when we were using an older version of ACT!) are not accessible to add to a new layout.
Any advice?

That means they are likely already some place on the layout. On e test is to start a new empty layout and see if you can add those fields. If so they are already placed somewhere in your existing layout.

If you go to the Tools menu, and select Define Fields, do you see the fields in that list? Or if you click the dropdown arrow under Contact Field at the top of the left-hand navigation bar, do you see those fields listed? These will tell you if the fields are in your database.
