Act 2011 fails to start after applying service pack 1, hotfix 1

I'm running Act 2011 on Windows 7 x64.

 

I had tried to install the US version of service pack 1 but it said the service pack could not be installed on the local version I'm running.  I could update using the UK version (I wasn't sure which version I was running, long story).  The file name is:

actpro2011sp1_uk_update_hf1.exe

 

After applying the update, Act won't start.  The cursor changes momentarily (which suggests it tries to run) but then nothing else happens.  Nothing at all.

 

I tried to install Hotfix 3 to see if that would fix the issue but the same thing happens after appying Hotfix 3.

 

I tried uninstalling Act, re-installing with only Microsoft services running using MSconfig but that did not help either.

 

I'll go back to the original version of Act 2011 in the mean time but can anyone help with this issue?

 

It's never long before a new issue arises with Act.  I find this application extremely frustrating.
