Act 2011 Questions

Will ACT 2011 run on Windows 8?

How many time may I install 2011?

I have several databases in ACT 6 that I need to convert and sync into 2011. I presume that is permissible. Am I correct?

Maybe but you're on your own. ACT!2011 was not tested with Windows 8.

No real limit but after three registrations you will need to contact customer service for authorization.

Convert yes. If by sync you mean import also yes.

Re: Act 2011 Questions

I was advised by toolbox to run act6diag on my databases before converting them to 2011. I have tried with act 6 running and with it shut down return the message "Windows cannot find "act6diag ....etc"

Re: Act 2011 Questions

Try using just actdiag in the Windows Run box.

Re: Act 2011 Questions

Thanks for your response.

By" run box"  if you mean the "run" from the accessories menu, that's where I have been getting the "Windows cannot find ..." message. I have run it with act6 running and with it closed, same result.

I have also searched the installation disc with no luck.

Where is that file resident?

Re: Act 2011 Questions

Select 'Run' from the Start Menu and just type 'actdiag'.

Re: Act 2011 Questions

If ACT! 2005 or later is installed on the same computer that is the version of ACTdiag that will launch from Run (it's the one registered in Windows). To run the ACT! 6 ACTdiag you need to browse to Program Files | ACT | and run ACTdiag from there. A trick is to rename the ACT! 6 ACTdiag to ACT6diag and then it can be launched from Start | Run.

Re: Act 2011 Questions

I ran actdiag and gotten rid of all the red arrows; ran the conversion program on my cly file (I have no supplemental files to convert); ran the custom conversion program on my database. Was unable to find a way to match my custom fields with 2011. went ahead and tried to complete conversion and got error messages: "Conversion has been halted with then following message: External component has thrown an exception" and "An exception occurred changing the schema. your precious ACT database .... thrown an exception"
