I have done a system restore to settings before the Windows update and no luck. Any suggestions? Thank you for any help!

Re: Act 2011 Pro will suddenly not open

Hello Jim,
Welcome to the Sage ACT! Community. It's possible the update may have done something to the ACT! install. The first thing I would try is uninstalling and reinstalling ACT!. The system restore would not have properly done this.

Greig Hollister

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Re: Act 2011 Pro will suddenly not open

Thank you for your help. I really wish there was a better solution than reinstalling. That is such a pain. Surely someone else must have come across this recently, with Microsoft's automatatic updates. Anyhow if you come up with anything else let me know - I thought the code I provided may give you a clue as to what happened. Thanks again.

Re: Act 2011 Pro will suddenly not open

I haven't heard issues from Windows Updates in quite a long while ... might have been a problem file or reg key that the update failed on

BTW: System Restore should only be a LAST resort... it often does more damage that it fixes. Most updates can be uninstalled from the control panel, and this is a better option

In fact, if you have done Sys Restores before, you might have registry or file issues that can cause on-going headaches

Re: Act 2011 Pro will suddenly not open

Thanks for the help and advice. I wound up unistalling and reinstalling as people have suggested, It did no good. I paid $119 for tech support to change a file and folder to an extension - .OLD. Took all of 30 seconds and that did the trick! Thanks again.

Sure here they are -
Foler:
USER/APPDATA/ROAMING/ACT/ACTDATA/PREFERENCES.OLD
File:
USER/APPDATA/ROAMING/ACT/ACTDATA/PREFERENCESBAK.OLD

Hopefully this will help somebody save some money on tech support.
