Act 2009 update fails kills Act2009

After lots of manual cleaning uninstalling etc, I finally get Act 2009 to install, but then the update fails and then Act won't work.

This occurred after doing a clean install of Windows 7, even though it had been working fine on the RC, also after many installation problems.

UAC is off. Installation complete succefully with no errors once everything has been uninstalled and cleaned.

Also, even though SQL 2005 is installed the SP2 and 3 say there is no product installed for the SP

I'm very frustrated with all the problems since upgrading from 2006 version from XP to Vista, and now Windows 7

Anyone else have this problem and solve it?

If the update was initiated through the Act! program itself (Check for Updates), you can resolve this by uninstalling Act!, if it still shows in Add/Remove Programs, reinstall with the original Act! 2009 install disk, then download the update from the www.act.com downloads site.  Once the update file is saved to your hard drive, make sure Act! is closed and double click on the downloaded update file to begin the update.

That didn't work either. Gave a 1603 error at the end, then a warning that this program might not have installed correctly. tried the hotfix afterwards and it said not for this version.
